The Buttermilk Jamboree Folk School

The Buttermilk Jamboree Folk School continues a long tradition at Circle Pines Center of engaging folks in learning and sharing in a noncompetitive and cooperative way.   Circle Pines was born from the Danish American Ashland Folk School in Grant ,Michigan in 1938 when the folks from Ashland outgrew their home in Grant.  That summer the group called itself Circle Pines Center and was one of the first renters of the newly created Civilian Conservation Corps camp at Chief Noonday in Middleville, Michigan.   After two seasons of noncompetitive and cooperative learning and sharing at Chief Noonday Camp the group collectively purchased its permanent home at the old  Civil War era Stewart family farm in Delton, Michigan, where it has been ever since.
Over the many decades Circle Pines Center’s educational offerings have always been as diverse as the folks who come to lead, learn and share.  At Buttermilk we continue that legacy with workshops ranging from paper making to discussions on nuclear energy, from home school forums to fiddle workshops.  And we are always open for more.
